Shih Tzu Dogs ExpectationsThis is a featured page

Shih Tzu dogs have a lot of behaviors that are found only in their breed and sometimes that is a good thing and sometimes that is not such a good thing. Before you invest in a Shih Tzu dog, and bring one home with you, you may want to look up their typical behavior and see if they are the right kind of dog for you and your family.

Shih Tzu dogs do not react well to loud noises, sudden noises, and a lot of commotion and rattling about. They are very high-strung dogs and one of their natural reactions to a lot of noise and commotion is an unpleasant biting response. For this reason you may want to talk it over with your breeder to decide if a Shih Tzu is a good dog to mix with your kids. It is better to find these things out before you bring the dog home especially if you discover that the Shih Tzu and your kids are not compatible.
Shih Tzu dogs come from dogs that were preferred by ancient Chinese royalty and they know it. They carry themselves very well and will usually walk very upright and proper. They do not need a lot of exercise but they love to run and play when they feel the urge and they certainly will not fight the urge to have fun if everyone around them seems to be having fun as well.

As far as noises go they do snore when they sleep so you may want to get your Shih Tzu used to sleeping in its own bed and they can also snort all day long. However they are not your typical toy breed of dog, as they are most certainly not a yippy dog. They do not bark all day long and they do not carry on vocally at all unless they have a very good reason. They don’t make great watchdogs but they only speak when they really mean it.
Shih Tzu dogs can be very stubborn and they definitely like to think for themselves. Chances are that a Shih Tzu will not be bringing back the stick you throw for it because they just don’t feel like it. This stubbornness can also translate into housebreaking issues and it could take almost six months to finally housebreak the stubborn Shih Tzu.

With their beautiful long coat that can come in many colors, and their playful disposition, Shih Tzu dogs can be great pets. Just know that they will need regular brushing of that long coat to stay healthy and they do not like being left alone for more than a few hours. They require a lot of attention and care but they can also be the most affectionate pet you ever owned. So be sure a Shih Tzu dog is for you before you invest in one because there may be some things about the dog that you do not like and if you can find that out in advance then you may be able to save you and the dog a lot of hassles.
